The Problem With PSG

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is reluctant to join Saudi club Al Hilal this month in what arrives as a major headache for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.

The striker can leave the Emirates Stadium this month after falling out of favour at Arsenal following a number of ‘disciplinary’ issues.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed last week that Saudi club Al Hilal had proposed to take Aubameyang on loan until the end of the season with an option to sign the Gabon international in the summer.

Al Hilal, Saudi’s most successful club, are willing to pay all of the 32-year-old’s £350,000-per-week wages.

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal would accept Al Hilal’s offer given their eagerness to offload Aubameyang this month.

However, the former club captain is understood to prefer a switch to another top European club this month and has so far been unreceptive to a move to Saudi Arabia.

That poses a major problem for Arsenal given their European rivals would likely be unwilling to pay Aubameyang’s wages in full, leaving the Gunners facing paying a percentage of his wages to move him on.

Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs aware of his availability this month and are monitoring his situation closely.

Talks over a potential move to Saudi were ongoing as late as Sunday night, but it is clear that Aubameyang prefers to stay in Europe.
